Diplopia is the simultaneous perception of two images of a single object that can move horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
It can be monocular, that is to say, be observed when the diseased eye is open; it then disappears when the diseased eye occludes. It can also be binocular (reaching both eyes). Diplopia can strongly influence an individual's balance, movement and ability to read.
